The Island of Vieques is Southeast of Puerto Rico and is considered one of the most beautiful and untouched islands in all of the Caribbean. Vieques is truly is one of the few remaining undeveloped, well preserved places left, with natural beauty and charm. Undeveloped, Vieques is today what many other now overcrowded, touristy islands were like 30 or 40 years ago. Voted the Best Island in the Caribbean., Bermuda and the Bahamas in 2008 by Travel and Leisure Magazine, Vieques has some of the most exquisite beaches on Earth.

Weather
The climate in Vieques is sub-tropical and during most of the year it is blessed with the trade winds from the east, which helps keep the humidity low even during the summer months, when it is actually preferable here than in most areas of the United States.
The most humid months are in mid-Sept. to mid-Nov., which are called the "doldrums". August through mid-October are the most active hurricane months in the Caribbean. During the winter months there is very little rain, and the water takes on the azure blue color, which people equate with the Caribbean.
Dining & Markets
The main shopping district can be found in Isabel Segunda, the Capital of Vieques, which is located on the Northern Coast of the Island. There are plenty of restaurants on Vieques, and also markets if you prefer to cook at home.
Transportation To and On Vieques
There are many major airlines that fly direct to San Juan, Puerto Rico and Vieques is accessible by a short plane or ferry ride from there. Starting in August, you can book straight through from the U.S. to Vieques on American Airlines.
On Vieques there are many car rental agencies, but during the winter months rental cars can be hard to come by. Make your car rental reservations early if you plan to visit from December through April.
Public transportation, called "Publicos" are another way to get around on Vieques. They are mostly nine passenger vans that transport people on regular routes around the island. They have set rates, but, if you want to go to a beach, there may be a higher cost. Ask around and people will clue you in on the reliable drivers. The hotels will call them for a pick up. Please DO tip your Publico Driver well, as he is your life line to getting home.
There are a few Publico drivers that will even hire out to groups for the day for a fee. The hotels and inns can direct you to them. It is customary to treat them well and buy them lunch. They are your family for the day. They can give you a great tour of the area.
If you're interested in buying a car, there are a couple of used auto dealers in Isabel Segunda.
